COLLEGIATE DAY OF PRAYER

“A group of mothers, all with college-age young people gathered in the evening. We prayed for about 20 different colleges and universities. God showed up in an amazing way. We picked a specific verse: John 17:17 and prayed that verse for each college and university.”  — James Madison University

“We Prayed for 2 hours with other believers in the center of campus the day beforehand with other believers. We had a 72-hour prayer chain the 3 days before CDOP. God revived my heart and connected me with scores of other Jesus People!”   — UC Berkley

On February 27, 6,011 campuses were adopted in prayer by 3,207 churches, ministries, and individuals. The 2,500-seat Rudder Auditorium at Texas A&M was sold out as students came to seek God for revival on their campuses.

According to Intervarsity, an evangelical Christian student movement with affiliate groups on university campuses, decisions for Christ rose by 33 percent last year. The Fellowship of Christian Athletes reports its highest number of salvations since the pandemic, and the international ministry Cru recently surpassed the one million mark in commitments to faith globally.

Ohio State saw 6,500 students gather at the Schottenstein center as 2,000 students made decisions for Christ. The University of Kentucky also saw 2,000 decisions for Christ. Thousands of students at Baylor University gathered earlier this month for 72 hours of continuous prayer to ask God for revival on their campus in Waco, Texas.

There are stories from campuses across the nation of thousands of students surrendering their lives to Jesus. It would seem there is a genuine move of the Holy Spirit bringing an awakening among this generation.

Don’t stop now! The Collegiate Day of Prayer was in February. However, praying for the next generation and praying for our university students is not limited to one day. Jesus said, “that men ought always to pray and not lose heart” (Luke 18:1). Could it be that the awakenings we are seeing on university campuses are the result of multiple generations of persistent intercessors, crying out for these students, faculty and staff?

Don’t stop with one day of prayer. We have our own university. What might happen on Bethel’s campus if Missionary Churches cried out to God on behalf of our university. We need Christian leaders for the future — pastors, teachers, missionaries — who have experienced an outpouring of the Spirit of God in spiritual awakening. We need to see leaders pursuing other professions who have a passion for Jesus.

It isn’t the sole responsibility of the university to produce those leaders. It is the responsibility of the church to intercede on behalf of our university. Every day is Collegiate Day of Prayer. Every day, Bethel students and students across the country need the prayers of the Church.

It is encouraging to read the stories of what God is doing on so many secular campuses. It is also exciting to hear the stories of lives changed at Bethel. If this movement is to continue it will need the preyers of God’s people. Keep praying! Don’t stop now!
